Q. How long does counseling take?
A. We wish we had a perfect answer for that! Each client and situation is unique, so you and your therapist can discuss this once treatment begins. Participation in counseling at Stonegate is completely voluntary and you may choose to discontinue services at any time and for any reason.
Q. What’s my next step?
A. Contact the therapist you would like to work with via email or call to schedule an appointment at (706) 546-7550. Joe, Thorn, Stephanie, Taylor, Alison, and Chaz have confidential emails and voicemails. You can also contact any of our therapists via email from their individual pages. We typically respond within 48 hours unless it is a weekend or holiday.
Q. How much does counseling cost?
A. Each therapist's fees are different, but typically range from $110-$250 for individual, couple, or family sessions. Sliding scale options may be available depending on your financial situation and each therapist's availability. Your therapist will discuss this with you before or during the first session as each therapist can share their limits of offering sliding scale appointments and their availability. Contact your preferred therapist to inquire about their session fees.
Q. What is a Therapist?
A. A Therapist or Counselor is an individual that is trained with a Master’s Degree or greater and is licensed in the state they practice.
Q. What is a Christian Therapist?
A. A Christian Therapist is a therapist or counselor that lives out their Christian life and values in their own life as well as the way they integrate Christian principles in their approach to therapy and counseling. We at Stonegate Counseling Associates believe Christian therapy and counseling involves helping individuals grow and apply their personal relationships with God in order to live healthily and fully.
Q. What is a Christian Sex Therapist?
A. Sex therapists are licensed mental health practitioners or healthcare professionals who have completed specialized training in human sexuality and helping people with difficulties related to sex. Sex therapists help people with problems related to sexual desire, pain during or after sex, erectile difficulties, ejaculation problems, or difficulty reaching orgasm. Sex therapists may also help people recover from sexual trauma, problems with compulsive sexuality, or with questions regarding their sexual attractions or sexual orientation. A Christian Sex Therapist integrates Christian faith and professional standards of sex therapy practice when working with couples, individuals, or families.
Q. What is Cognitive Behavior Therapy?
A. Our thoughts can influence how we feel as well as how we behave. Cognitive Behavior Therapy helps a person to think and behave differently. It examines core beliefs that a person holds, and then looks at how those beliefs may be influencing aspects of their life. By learning new ways of thinking, it becomes easier to respond more effectively to challenging life events. Cognitive Behavior Therapy has also been shown to help those struggling with severe anxiety.
Q. What is an internet sexual addiction?
A. An internet sexual addiction is a combination of a sexual addiction and internet addiction, which can develop when someone compulsively uses the internet for sexual gratification.
A sexual addiction is the lack of control of some sexual behavior or relationship. Perhaps the most helpful definition is a practical one: sexual behavior that has a negative effect on one’s life.
Q. What if I have insurance?
A. When you use your insurance, a psychiatric diagnosis must be assigned and transmitted to your insurance company, detailed clinical information often must be provided by your therapist, and in some cases total access to patient files often must be provided to insurance company employees. Often, insurance companies attempt to influence the methods or course of treatment so as to save money; this means treatment decisions will not be made by the therapist and client alone. Also, psychiatric diagnoses may affect your ability to obtain future health or life insurance and rates for that insurance. None of the therapists at Stonegate take or file insurance and would be considered an "Out of Network Provider". We can give you a "Superbill" that you can send to your insurance and pursue any reimbursement they allow.
