Anxiety Counseling in Watkinsville & Athens, GA

Anxiety has a way of convincing you that everything is urgent, that something is always about to go wrong, and that you need to stay on high alert just to get through the day. Maybe it shows up as a knot in your stomach before work. Maybe it’s the racing thoughts at 2 a.m. that won’t let you sleep. Maybe it’s the way you replay conversations in your mind, wondering if you said the wrong thing.

If any of that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek counseling, and it’s also one of the most responsive to treatment.

What Anxiety Can Look Like
Anxiety doesn’t always look like a panic attack. For a lot of people, it’s more subtle than that. It might look like difficulty making decisions, avoiding situations that feel overwhelming, irritability that seems to come out of nowhere, trouble concentrating, chronic muscle tension, or an underlying sense of dread that you can’t quite pin down. Some people describe it as feeling like they’re always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

It can also show up in relationships: patterns like pulling away from people because social interaction feels exhausting, or becoming overly dependent on reassurance from a partner or friend.

How We Help
Our therapists use approaches that are backed by decades of research, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Brainspotting, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. But we don’t just hand you a set of coping skills and send you on your way. We want to discover what’s driving the anxiety: whether that’s rooted in past experiences, current life stress, relational patterns, or something else, we can help you address it at the source.

If faith is an important part of your life, we'll gladly incorporate that into your work. Your relationship with God can be an incredibly stabilizing force! If it’s not, that’s completely fine. Either way, the goal is the same: helping you get to a place where anxiety isn’t running the show. Learn more about how we can incorporate faith into excellent counseling here.

What to Expect
In your first session, your therapist will take time to hear your story and understand what you’re dealing with. There’s no script or checklist — just a real conversation about what’s been going on and what you’re hoping to change. From there, you and your therapist will figure out a plan that makes sense for your specific situation.

Most clients start to notice some shifts within the first few sessions, though the timeline depends on what you’re working through. Some people come for a handful of sessions to get through a rough patch; others stay longer to work on deeper patterns. There’s no pressure either way.
